Duro Olowu Fall 2014 RTW Collection

Standard

Duro Olowu will hit the 10 year mark for his brand later this year. In that 10 years he has carved out a very distinct identity, one that is easily recognizable as unique to him season in and out. This Fall, Olowu presented a collection that was comfortable in it’s own skin. Every piece within was in some way a representative signature of the brand, from his bright prints to some sweeping mermaid skirts.

Fall 2014 was inspired by deco era furniture designer Elizabeth Eyre de Lanux and the Dada set—Man Ray, and Elsa Schiaparelli, who’s avante garde surrealist experimentation in the early 20th century have been widely emulated. Olowu’s own signature stamp lends itself perfectly to this inspiration. Enjoy!!

Project Runway’s Dom Streater Designs

Standard

Dom Streater may have just presented her first collection at New York Fashion Week, but the Philadelphia native is definitely used to having her designs sized up by the fashion elite.

She’s the reigning winner of “Project Runway” and has proven herself worthy of the spotlight. But now the 25-year-old designer, who is the show’s first-ever African-American winner, is looking to secure her place amongst the biggest designers in the industry — and if her Fall/Winter 2014 collection is any indication of that campaign then she’s on the right track.

Valentino Spring/Summer 2014

It’s Valentine’s Day, so why not go Valentino! Valentino sent a multitude of looks down the runway for Spring/Summer 2014, so it’s no surprise that their new ad campaign for the collection is just as grandiose.

The ornate embellishments and patterns in the garments give a worldly, well-traveled appearance, all of which is highlighted by the outdoor landscape around them. I love the juxtaposition between the clothes and the scenery on this shoot!

Designer Karen Walker’s “Visible” Campaign

Standard

In my quest to discover how the world affects fashion, I am excited to share the artistry of Karen Walker. She has presented some stellar look books in the past, featuring seniors and kids rocking her spectacular sunglasses. This season’s look is no exception. In her latest campaign entitled “Visible,” she recruits the very Kenyan based artisans who’s skill sets are a direct result of the Ethical Fashion Initiative.

Some models were the skilled craftspeople who were directly responsible for manufacturing the cases that her amazing sunglasses come with. We love how she came full circle and celebrated those responsible for producing her great products. What do you think? Enjoy!!

Roberto Cavalli Pre-Fall 2014 Collection

Standard

Roberto Cavalli’s Pre-Fall 2014 Collection combined animal prints, jacquards, brocades, and fur in an opulent yet not over-the-top way. For the most part, I had traded in my animal prints for a while because everyone else was all over that look, and TenaciousM is a leader, not a follower. I’m happy to see a more refined approach to the fabrics this year. I’m also feeling the embellished jewelry, shoes, and bags completing the looks. Enjoy!
