Donna Karan Resort 2014 Collection

Standard

When asked about the inspiration for her Resort 2014 Collection, Donna Karan was quoted to say that it was all about the “L” word – and then listed several: long, lean, languid, luxurious, light. These adjectives definitely sum up the collection well.

Aside from the occasional stripe and polka dot, solid colors dominated, mostly in neutral shades with pops of red. Bare shoulders, boxy blazers, effortless and gorgeous draping were key characteristics as well. I personally am looking forward to Spring. Do you have any favorites? Enjoy!

Lupita Nyong’o is Fun & Edgy for Vogue Italia’s February 2014 Issue

Standard

I absolutely love me some Lupita Nyong’o (Actress, “12 Years a Slave”)! Her ascent to the top of the sartorial sphere has been an amazing transition to watch. Check out her latest spread for the February issue of Vogue Italia, shot by Tony Munro. In it Nyong’o sizzles in some of Spring 2014′s hottest looks. And in case you’re not on the Lupi-train yet, maybe this fun and edgy editorial for Vogue Italia Magazine would convince you.

Showing her excited yet edgy side, Lupita has been featured in the issues’ February 2014 fashion editorial styled by Patti Wilson. If for some bizarre and very unlikely reason acting doesn’t pan out for Lupita, modeling is so her forté.

Rachel Roy Fall 2014 RTW Collection

Standard

Rachel Roy is a bad girl!! She marked on the 10th anniversary of her label, giving us more tailored styles and less of her usual relaxed pieces. Roy said, “I designed what I wanted and needed and what I thought would work.” I’m loving the way she mixed materials, with graphic prints and presented it with exquisite charm. So many amazing looks. Enjoy the collection!

Designer Karen Walker’s “Visible” Campaign

Standard

In my quest to discover how the world affects fashion, I am excited to share the artistry of Karen Walker. She has presented some stellar look books in the past, featuring seniors and kids rocking her spectacular sunglasses. This season’s look is no exception. In her latest campaign entitled “Visible,” she recruits the very Kenyan based artisans who’s skill sets are a direct result of the Ethical Fashion Initiative.

Some models were the skilled craftspeople who were directly responsible for manufacturing the cases that her amazing sunglasses come with. We love how she came full circle and celebrated those responsible for producing her great products. What do you think? Enjoy!!

Roberto Cavalli Pre-Fall 2014 Collection

Standard

Roberto Cavalli’s Pre-Fall 2014 Collection combined animal prints, jacquards, brocades, and fur in an opulent yet not over-the-top way. For the most part, I had traded in my animal prints for a while because everyone else was all over that look, and TenaciousM is a leader, not a follower. I’m happy to see a more refined approach to the fabrics this year. I’m also feeling the embellished jewelry, shoes, and bags completing the looks. Enjoy!

Balmain Pre-Fall 2014 Collection

Standard

I am excited about some of the designer clothes being shown for 2014. My affection for animal prints, ethnic and multicultural influences remains predominant, and I am happy to see the look evolve in such a sleek, understated chic manner. A true Parisian powerhouse, Balmain was founded many years ago by couturier Pierre Balmain, and was kick-started back into fashion-prominence in 2005 by the valiant Christophe Decarnin. Now with Olivier Rousteing at the helm as Creative Director, the label continues to deliver decadent rock-inflected glamour with ultra sexy, severe and distinctive collections for both women and men. I really like the styling of the garments which gives me ideas to reinvent items already in my closet.

Our love for Olivier Rousteing only deepens with the launch of his Pre-Fall 2014 collection. His aim was to push the idea that his brand is for women of different cultures, ethnicities, and price ranges.

The result was a sort of safari-meets-hip-hop aesthetic, which pulled inspiration from Peter Beard’s photography of Iman in Africa, back in her early modeling days. We can definitely see his muse Rihanna rocking the little miniskirts. Enjoy!
